Comedy Night with Monty Mitchell, Carlette Jennings, & Amber Autry

09.29.2022 - So, I’m walking into the Ready Room to welcome the guest comedians appearing at the Harvester, and there’s Ms Amy Allen, one of our loyal patrons and supporters of the Harvester and Burlap Room, (owner of the Legacy Haus on West Walnut Street in Historic Downtown Smithville and American Farmhouse in Baxter, TN)…and she’s in there hangin’ with the comedians’ entourage.  Now, it’s always a pleasure to run into bubbly Amy, but I was totally surprised when she said, “This is my brother”, and introduced me to Monty Mitchell, the headliner comedian for the evening…who knew??--your brother?!

After that little “small world” incident, Comedy Night #3 moved on to live up to expectations, with our “Comedy Guru”, Amber Autry (back by popular demand)  returning to the Harvester stage with a fresh lineup of up-and-coming, nationally-touring comedians in tow. (Amber’s credits include Drybar, she’s a Zanie’s regular, and. What about them sparkly boots Girl?!)

Amber’s guest funny friends for Comedy Night #3 were:

Carlette Jennings (Resident Comic at the Laughing Skull in Atlanta, Seen on Season 2 of FX’s Atlanta) Carlette brought up a fresh new set of scenarios re: “her inter-racial relatives” that was funny, but also pointed out some thoughtful truths about the unavoidable vast differences that exist between people, cultures, even genders. One good example of Carlette’s truth in comedy is her observation, “Washing a man’s drawers requires some detergent that’s chemically-based and made in a laboratory” - NOT “just lavender and rosemary” as her white sister-in-law from Ohio apparently had recommended.

Monty Mitchell, (World Series of Comedy Vegas, Winner of Rocky Top Comedy Contest, featured on PBS Tennessee Crossroads), having been raised in Cookeville, Tennessee, certainly gave Monty Mitchell an edge at winning over the Harvester crowd, and he used that edge to its fullest potential - Monty is funny and had the crowd so “on his side” that having to finish his set with a failing, duct-tape rigged microphone only proved his ability to create impromptu comedy in addition to his “well-written and delivered” prepared material (a true gift!). Hint #1 that a comedian is going over well:  People ask when can you get that person back again before their opening night’s even over...Well, there ya go, Monty! Special thanks to Lao Mobile Kitchen for their “always excellent” authentic dining experience, and the Harvester staff for for another great evening!

It’s a funny, world, Y’all- Might as well yuck it up…Comedy Night will return to the Harvester with another fresh lineup - date and details coming soon!

We’ll be back at the Burlap Room on Saturday, October 8, for Dia de los Muertos, our last event of the Burlap Room’s 2022 Concert Series, but more events will carry us through the rest of the year and into 2023 at the Harvester, make plans to join us again at the Harvester on October 22 for October Skies Art Festival and Open House featuring live music performances throughout the day including a jazz ensemble, and Falyn (who previously performed at the Burlap Room) - all events that day will be free and open to the public (18 & up after 6pm).
