Bert’s on Thursday: Delyn Christian

09.22.2022 - You just knew Bert’s on Thursday at the Burlap Room was going to be a special evening just by the incredibly perfect temperature/humidity that settled on top of Snow Hill as the first day of fall in Smithville day wound down. The outdoor Wisteria Stage was showing off its living green roof, and was subtly lit to create a warm, intimate vibe around the fire pits as nightfall approached.

Burlappers (old hands and newbies), showed up early in anticipation of the usual fare on site - excellent food from Tio’s Taco Truck, some great local craft beer, and the very best live music that the Upper Cumberland has to offer.

Delyn Christian knows his way around just about any demographic audience you can throw him at…as one of my compadres said, “Delyn’s been out there getting beat up on the road so long that he approaches his musical art with authority”...and that observation of course brings up that other quality I look for in an entertainer of any type - “Authenticity”, and Mr. Delyn Christian’s eat up with it!

Delyn’s setlist which was certainly widely varied, and obviously “custom-made on-the-spot”: expertly delivered crowd-pleasing songs from John Prine to The Band, and Bonnie Raitt, with “just the right amount” of clever and raucous original songs he’s penned thrown into the mix. Not only do you need to hear Delyn Christian perform live, you need to check out his live radio program on WBRY Woodbury, TN on Mondays and Tuesdays 6-10a.m. CST.  His radio playlist is almost as varied and eclectic as his live shows. Not only does Delyn know his music, he knows music in general, and is especially versed in the Ohio professional music scene where he performed starting when he was a youngun’. (Delyn sez: “Yessir, Ohio was VERY good to me for MANY years!”).

Like so many other “transplants” to our area from way up north and out west, Delyn’s found a home here now, and based on his multi-faceted talent and the recognition he’s receiving from his live appearances all over the Upper Cumberland area (and the Bluebird Cafe in Nashville), it looks like Tennessee is being VERY good to Delyn these days!
