Southern Rock Jam with the Joe Harvey Band

07.16.2022 - “...And them Tucker Boys are cookin’ down in Caroline”.  Suddenly, if you squinted just a little, it was a mini-Volunteer Jam (back when we were all several years younger). The assembled crowd at Bert Driver’s Burlap Room on Saturday was an eclectic mix of “Hell, Yeah!” seasoned Southern Rock fans from ‘back in the day’, and an impressive bunch of younger folks who got right into the music – even if they didn’t recognize some of the songs or know about the artists who created them, they could feel the vibe and appreciate the deep roots of rock, blues, and country in the playlist.

That’s the amazing power of music – to unite people, regardless of all the stuff that prevents us from tuning in to the soul of the song and the artist, and participating in one of the oldest and most natural conversations ever…sensual communication between a musician and a listener. You have to have both elements (player/listener) for the magic to really work.

So, reminiscent of the old Starwood Amphitheater magical moments, the anthems from the Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels, and all the rest just kept on coming from the Joe Harvey Band, headliner for the evening. (Excellent song selection by Joe Harvey BTW) – and the Southern Rock classics that Joe Harvey didn’t play, were most likely covered by Jimmy Wayne Garrett during his Southern Rock-themed opening set, which primed the assembled Burlappers for the high-powered, big-sounding,  ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF evening of “some of the best music ever”, per a contingent of regular Burlappers (who were having BIG fun!). And kudos to DJ Rob for launching the evening with tunes to tie the entire evening together. The Joe Harvey Band consists of:

  • Joe Harvey - Big Voice, with Big Front-Man Talent

  • Kevin Harvey - Bass Guitar, Keys

  • Lee Carr - Guitar

  • Andy Wilhite - Guitar

  • Evan Gross - Drums

Great job Joe & Band, Jimmy Wayne, and DJ Rob - thanks for putting together a perfect show for our Southern Rock Jam, and congrats to the three lucky individuals won free trees (our now-traditional, much-anticipated feature at all Burlap Room concert events)! Music’s always the focus at the Burlap Room, but our Sponsors/Vendors make it possible for us to present the high caliber of entertainment events that we are bringing to Smithville, the Upper Cumberland, and the Middle Tennessee area. Many thanks to:

Keep your calendar open for this coming week - William Matheny at the Harvester (with a special Bourbon & Bites option) on Friday, July 22. Up next at the Burlap Room is the Outlaw Country Review with Cody Purvis and Friends on Saturday, August 6, Middle of Somewhere Hemp Fest IV with Magnolia Boulevard on Saturday, August 20 (where all the movers and shakers in the hemp/CBD industry in our expanded region will be exhibiting their wares and sharing their expertise about the changes taking place in this exciting industry), Comedy Night at the Burlap Room with Amber Autry and Friends on Thursday, August 25 (more details/tickets coming soon), and Michelle Poe, Ken Taylor, and Russ Freeman at the Harvester on Saturday, August 27!  Stay up-to-date with all the events in the Bert Driver Network (Nursery, Burlap Room, and the newly-opened Harvester Event Center) by signing up for our Burlapper Newsletter.
