Jeep Cruise-In & Allman Brothers Tribute

from Midnight Riders

A cool time at Bert Driver’s Burlap Room on Saturday afternoon/evening indeed!

The temp was a VERY comfortable range, with no sign of precipitation, as the quarter moon rose with an orange tint.

The Burlappers were out again in force, joining in with Bert Driver’s Burlap Room’s first foray into “Jeep World” hosting our first every Cruise-in.   Didn’t take long at all to realize that these “Jeepers” are just the type of fun-loving folks we want to have participate in our events. We plan to expand on our Jeep-themed event going forward.

Mr. Mike Cassity was our first-place overall winner and was awarded his custom-made trophy by the young lady who created the piece using her welding skills, Olivia Flanders.  Second and Third place winners took home our traditional “treephies”, a Bald Cypress this time.

Mucho thank-you’s to Pipi Flanders, an experienced Jeeper and marketing-minded supporter of Bert Driver’s Burlap Room, for helping us with our first cruise-in….and, to Colonel Jon Flanders for starting the evening out most appropriately by reading a post he had created about his perspective on 9/11- very moving….and no, we will NEVER forget.

After that inevitably somber moment, almost before we knew it, the magic of music from the Mustache Petting Zoo had us transported under the swampy, funky spell of the NOLA and Louisiana-based accomplished young players.

Ms. Whitney Alouicious had three of them funky Louisiana boys with her cooking up some wicked dark Dr. John feels w/ NOLA soulful undertones for her energetic, vocally right on featured songs. These NOLA musicians have been besieged by Covid last year and then run out of town by Hurricane Ida most recently. Thank you for supporting us and helping them do what they do. They do it so well!

Following MPZ’s excellent opening set, the well-seasoned Midnight Riders took over the controls and immediately cruised us right up to the next level with the authentic opening strains of “I got to run to keep from hidin’ to the ending choruses of raging twin guitar harmony jams that I’m just sure would bring a smile to both of “THE Brothers” souls.

A “tribute band”?  Yeah, but the Midnight Riders are the real deal folks- their tasteful and talented playing are right up there on par with those boys from Macon who happened to be in the right place at the right time to capture our hearts and souls.

Righteous Performance, Midnight Riders- Ride on!

Thanks to our food vendors, My Thai Kitchen, and Tio’s Taco Truck, and our art/merchandise vendors, Ms. Tabitha Thierjung and Lexie from the Appalachian Center for Craft, and Kat’s Creations Tie-dyed products.

Come hang out with us for Bert’s on Thursday, too! The next Thursday event features the Burlap Willow Cigar Club and Lee Rolfes. Tickets can be purchased online at https://bertdriver.com/event-calendar/berts-on-thursday-with-lee-rolfes.
