bert’s on thursday: St. Patty’s Day with GEne williams

It was a splendid Tennessee early spring evening, with a big ole almost-full moon hanging in the sky at Bert Driver’s Burlap Room. During another installment of Bert’s on Thursday (with the firepits blazing and Gene Williams on the intimate Wisteria outdoor stage), just the right mix of familiar popular country songs, was at just the right volume for the Burlappers on hand to  listen, sing along, or converse with their compadres.

As Gene romped through the “biggest of the biggest country hits”, it struck me that a lot of “the Outlaws” - Willie, Waylon, Merle, Hank Jr. – all of the so-called  “anti-establishment” of country music is now accepted by the majority of country fans as “mainstream country”.

Gene Williams does ALL those great memorable hits from that era, and throws in some Garth Brooks, Elvis, and even Exile – it’s HARD to rock a crowd with one guitar and vocals, although a lot of the choruses of songs that Gene performed had a second harmony part (using a special foot pedal) that certainly made for a fuller sound.

At Bert Driver’s Burlap Room, we try to provide “a little something for everyone music-wise”, and Gene Williams certainly does justice to  the “Big Country Hits” from just about all segments of the genre.

Next Saturday, March 26th, is our first Lebowski by the Lake here at Bert Driver’s Burlap Room, which includes a screening of the cult classic The Big Lebowski and live music by rock band KINFOLK!  (costumes are encouraged but not required). Stay tuned in to Bertdriver.com for all the latest planned events, concerts and happenings during the Summer/Fall Series at Bert Driver’s Burlap Room, and click on The Harvester tab while you’re on the bertdriver.com webpage to see the most exciting event venue in The Upper Cumberland.
