Lady L and Zack Montgomery at the Harvester
10.26.2023 - A standout group of “Who’s Who” when it comes to Upper Cumberland musicians/ performers appeared live on stage for a Bert’s on Thursdays special performance of the group Lady L for the Harvester’s “Ladies’ Night”, featuring “free admission for all ladies”!
Zack Montgomery opened up the evening with a strong, solid set of cover songs you don’t normally hear from a solo vocalist with a guitar, primarily because of the vocal range and power required for the selected material - well, Mr. Zack certainly doesn’t pay any heed to that potential restriction, as he “Outsegered Seger”, hit some notes Hank Jr. hits in his dreams, and sprinkled in a few original songs Zack wrote for his rock n’ roll group Revelry. Then proceeded to crush Pearl Jam with his stirring rendition of the coroner Eddy Vedder.
The Harvesters really got into Zack’s set, but honestly, the evening belonged to the classy Lady L’s performance. EVERY song chosen was right on the money, very close to the recorded version, and when Lady L strayed from the original arrangement to add their own personal Lady L touch, the results were...well, electrifying. There’s so much musical talent and feel coming off that stage that I personally thought, “Hell, this rendition of Fooled Around and Fell in Love sounds a lot like the original, but actually is BETTER than Elvin Bishop’s version”! And it’s all happening on a Thursday night right here in Historic Smithville, Tennessee!
Lady L consists of:
Lorie Judd is a vocalist, songwriter, guitarist, and bassist. She began her love affair with music at a very early age. Lorie was influenced by her musical family, especially her grandmother who taught her how to play guitar at age 11.
Leann Huddleston’s interest in music and singing began at a young age, singing in church and in musical theater. She is currently the female-half of country music duo Caleb & Leann. They recently wrapped up a 4-song project produced by Grammy-winning producer and songwriter, Robert Keith Stegall, and their debut single 'She Drives' is available everywhere music is streamed.
Lily Bethke is a singer-songwriter from Green Bay. She has lived in Middle Tennessee for over 9 years pursuing her passion and connecting with people through the power of music. She wrote her first song at age 16 and hasn’t stopped writing since.
Colton Rhody on electric, John Whitehead on drums, and Aaron Silvey on acoustic.
My two cents worth: Vocal harmony is one of the most beautiful and moving sounds on earth- female voices, when melded properly create the most beautiful harmonies. Lady L- Lorie, Leann, and Lily, backed up by some of the tastiest musicians in these parts, presented some of the best female vocal harmonies ever during one of the most exciting musical performances on the Harvester Center’s Flatwoods stage thus far!
As always, a big Thank You to Hardwoods Smokehouse BBQ, excellent cuisine for the occasion, and the ever-vigilant and efficient Security and Service Staff of the Harvester. Special kudos to Harvester Sound Engineer, Phil Stafford, for the great sound!
