The Great Eclipse Observation Celebration

04.08.2024 - It was an incredible day with rain and wind, and even some lightning in the early morning hours that awakened the entire village of Smithville to find the cloudy rainy day on this the day the sun and moon play peekaboo. DeKalb County Schools were called off and many families attended this unique event at Bert Driver’s Burlap Room where it is always kid-friendly and dog-friendly.

What suddenly happened is the wind died down, the rain went away, the clouds parted and we got to see the eclipse for the second time in seven years. How incredibly lucky we are to get to do it right here in the Smithville/DeKalb County/Center Hill Lake/Upper Cumberland/MIddle Tennessee/United States /North America/Planet Earth who (currently ranked #3 among planets in the preseason AP Poll).

Many people from across the region came to be with us on this special day and have Tio’s Taco Truck and Calfkiller Beers, and some groovy tunes laid down by DJ Rob! Sunglasses at Night, Here Comes the Sun, Black Hole Sun, and the Local Vibe we so often exude…how incredible that was!!! Thank you, DJ Rob, for planting the seed of this great idea which became The Great Eclipse Observation Celebration from Snow Hill, Tennessee!!

Also, there were several children, several dogs, and some of the children were fishing and caught some bass out of the pond on eclipse day. It's pretty cool that everybody brought their sunglasses, had some libations, sat around the fire, and laughed and watched the color change from grays to black to almost beige to brown gray, back to black to gray, and the sun gave away where it was liquid. It was liquid like the clouds. The clouds were faking everyone out and it looked like it was closing up. It's closing, no, it's not, it's not going away. It’s actually still there!!!   It’s a fake out and we got to almost 90%, and to see everything that happened in our path of totality, not far off from all of The BoBo Driver Family, down there in good old  Wiberley, Texas.

With that said, what a great experience as an earthling to get to be here, feel the sunshine, the change in temperature, the changing sound, and to watch it all unfold in the middle of a nursery with music and beverages, children and laughter, and of course, dogs. Stellar Occasion from The Local Vibe!
