Ash Wednesday with Matt Hundley and Minister David Hill
02.22.2023 - As further evidence of the versatility of the many ambiances and experiences the Harvester Performance & Event Center can create/project, on Wednesday the Flatwoods Stage was transformed into a totally appropriate environment for Smithville’s Webb’s Chapel United Methodist Church to hold their Ash Wednesday traditional service.
Matt Hundley provided excellent vocal, acoustic guitar, and violin meditative music (with some technical wizardry which sounded more like three musicians than one). His repertoire of Christian praise music fit the evening’s mood perfectly, and set the stage for David Hill, minister of Webb’s Chapel to present his special message for the Ash Wednesday occasion – and special it was, indeed! His words of encouragement admonished us to not focus on our past failures, but to rather concentrate on removing whatever impedes our spiritual flow, and figure out how we can improve that flow of our spiritual river moving forward toward the highest of our Christian holy days, Easter.
The entire Ash Wednesday service was indeed a special experience, embracing both the very traditional Methodist service rituals in a non-traditional (until now) environment. The service was everything an Ash Wednesday Service should evoke - reflection, humbleness, sacrifice, hope, faith, and finally, resolution to be a better person…the Harvester staff and management were truly blessed to be a part of this community-wide faith-based event.
Back to the secular fun-filled world tomorrow: Finally Fridays with Harry Clark and Maddie Denton on 2/24, Bert’s on Thursdays Comedy Night with Host Brad Sativa, Feature Morgan Gallo, and Headliner Aaron Weber on 3/2, Finally Fridays St. Patrick’s Day Celebration with the John Boulware Trio on 3/17, and two separate events to benefit the DCHS Band: DCHS Fighting Tiger Band Jazz Ensemble Benefit Concert on 3/23 and a 1920's Spring Formal with Beasley Court Big Band on 3/25.
