More about Tom...
"Imposter", the upcoming EP (August 2024) from independent alt pop artist, Tom Tippin, acts as a confident diary detailing the transitional period of young adulthood. Growing up and drifting apart from your closest friends, discovering who you are away from your childhood home, and trying to make a name for yourself beneath the scrutiny of those who have done it before you: Each of these songs is a diary entry specific to Tom's experience, but the poignant hooks and mold-breaking production grabs listeners and speaks to the universal human experience.
Having begun his musical journey watching his platinum-selling, country star of a father, Aaron Tippin, tour the country, Tom always knew he wanted to make a career out of live performance. Tom's first-pass at releasing music (Teenage Heart, 2019) landed him on the front of shows for country giants such as Travis Tritt and The Oak Ridge Boys. During this period, he refined his live performance skills in front of thousands of people, but as he discovered more about himself, he also further developed his unique sound, which became the launchpad for his pop/rock EP, "Wasted Melodies" (2021). It was here that Tom first explored the sounds of vocoded vocal stacks, rich synths, and punchy drums through working with producer Jason Wozniak (Vacation Manor, Chris Renzema).
"Imposter" serves to add the most genuine and introspective songs to Tom's discography to date. Its in this EP that Tom deconstructs his unique upbringing and puts his unfiltered experience in the hands of the listener. Tom approaches his own flaws and insecurities with the humor that only a professional songwriter can. Likening his mind to an abandoned shopping mall, Tom writes off his struggles with anxiety as his "Job Security", singing "Tell me who I am without it all? Couldn't write this song about being miserable." Tom uses this same brutally introspective approach to take the listener through his journey of having a famous dad ("Nepo Baby"), thinking he's the root of all his problems ("Mars"), to realizing most of his obstacles are a result of his own overthinking ("In My Head"). Co-Produced with Michael Guillot (Moony, Honest Men, Gabrielle Grace), this project reminds listeners that we are not the first, nor the last, to face the trials of growing up and discovering who we are underneath it all.
