Finally Fridays at the harvester with Jordan Morack Jazz trio
11.11.2022 - A cool breeze blew down the streets of Historic Downtown Smithville on Friday as our neighbors The Shoppes on West Walnut kicked off their Holiday Shopping Haven Campaign.
The whole downtown Smithville area is READY and all decked out for a bright and joyous holiday season, and it’s obvious that this is the place to be…based on the amount of fun seekers who were out on Friday, the word’s beginning to get out!
The streets had plenty of shoppers looking for that special treasure, food, and fun!
The “fun” portion was in abundance at the Harvester during the second of our “Finally Fridays” series, as an even cooler breeze blew in some repeater MTSU-affiliated jazz musician/artists.
The Jordan Morack Jazz Trio played sets that fit the Harvester ambiance perfectly – I must say
that Marguerite Beane’s rendition of “Stardust” was one of the best I’ve ever heard - anywhere, by anyone. Suffice to say that I’ve heard Stardust performed live by Errol Garner, Duke Ellington’s band, Tom Jones, Robert Goulet, etc,, and none were better (or classier) than Marguerite’s version at the Harvester Center on Friday night. Bravo, Marguerite!
Marguerite’s vocals and solid guitar playing were artfully supported by Bailey Johnstone on bass, who is probably the ONLY bass player alive from whom I would tolerate TWO bass solos in one set - but this Bailey kid is a very hot player and very inventive with his big-stringed buddy, so I applauded both (very different) solos.
Jordan and I reflected on the many performances at the Burlap Room and even his final senior performance, with professors in tow – Jordan said : “I got my degree at The Burlap Room“ and THAT is priceless for the community for our souls - you said quality classy and we continue to attract those from outside our area who now call this home - welcome to the Harvester!
The fourth member of the trio, David Cooper - he was good, soft toned and laid in some excellent textured horn parts with Jordan (and fired off some strong trombone solos as well).
Jordan - what can I say? You’ve played over ten times now at the Burlap Room and the Harvester, and you’ve got some kinda special old soul in there, Mr. Morack! Your honest deep appreciation and love of music is felt by us audience members when you play, and it’s a joy to be on the receiving end of all that energy and musical talent.
I would also like to give kudos to the Harvester’s classy audience who were present ona Friday night for a live jazz performance – they were VERY attentive and responsive, even applauding at appropriate times following an exceptional solo or passage…I swear, coulda been San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, etc…but no, we are right here in the “Middle of Somewhere”- good ole Smithville, Tennessee!
Bert Driver’s Burlap Room and The Harvester Performance and Event Center are now integral parts of the Jazz, Rock, and Bluegrass music scene- a professional showcase for the high quality musicians and artists right here in the Middle Tennessee/ Upper Cumberland areas. For those who appreciate and support our endeavors, we thank you! We need you to spread the word and help us continue to move the needle on culture onward/upward!
Our thanks also go out to Tio’s Taco Truck, who was on hand, serving up their always-superb authentic Mexican fare to their fans at the Harvester for this week’s round of Finally Fridays! Don’t forget the Burlap Room continues to stay open late most Thursdays until 8pm, and Finally Fridays continues next Friday, 11/18 - Sounds Like Harmony.
