Good Friday Service 2024 at the Harvester
03.29.2024 - How lovely and blessed to wake up on Good Friday in Smithville, Tennessee and witness the beauty and striking color of the redbuds, dogwoods, red maple, and the rebirth of yet another Holy Week is observed in this encompassing ceremony to commemorate what is the very foundation of Christian faith - what a powerful and peaceful feeling of being connected to the community.
For the second time in as many years, The Harvester Event Center hosted the Keltonburg - Smithville - Webb’s Chapel Charge of The First United Methodist Church. A true cross-section of denominations and faiths came together to observe and recall the story of Jesus. The event, conducted by David Hill of the Smithville First United Methodist Church, marked yet another component of Holy Week that also included Maundy Thursday services at Keltonburg Methodist Church followed by a midday Good Friday service at The Harv and then Tenebrae services at Webb’s Chapel United Methodist on Friday evening. The Super Bowl of the Christian faith on Easter Sunday which will be held at Smithville’s First United Methodist Church on Sunday. The gathering brought members of the three churches closer as they shared in the spirit of camaraderie and celebration.
As the midday sun beamed on the smiling faces the event transitioned into a time of reflection and spiritual connection. David Hill led a moving ceremony that centered around the significance of Good Friday and the start of the Easter weekend. His words resonated with the attendees, reminding them of the importance of faith, love, and unity during this sacred time of the year.
The Harvester was transformed into a place of worship and fellowship as the community came together to participate in prayers, hymns, and moments of quiet contemplation. The sound of voices raised in song echoed through the halls, creating a sense of peace and serenity.
The Smithville Charge have upheld the traditional Methodist service throughout the week. The community gathered to observe this solemn occasion, reflecting on the significance of the day and the events leading up to Easter Sunday.
The traditions and rituals associated with were honored and respected, creating a sense of reverence and contemplation among attendees: the importance of humility, service, and love for one another…it was a poignant and moving experience for all who attended. The message of sacrifice and redemption was at the forefront of the service as the community gathered to remember and reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus, and the somber atmosphere met with a sense of hope and anticipation for the joyous celebration that awaited.
As the Methodist churches in Smithville continue to uphold these long standing traditions they serve as pillars of strength and unity in the community. The commitment to honoring holy week and celebrating Easter with reverence and joy is a testament to the faith and the devotion of the congregation. The Methodist church leadership in these traditions has helped foster a sense of community, faith and togetherness that is deeply cherished by all who call Smithville,Tennessee home.
